Dr. John R. McGinnis, D.C., F.I.C.C.

Introducing Sumter Chiropractor, Dr. John McGinnis:

I grew up in a large Catholic family and was the youngest of six. After graduating from Sumter High School and attending Clemson University, I graduated from Life Chiropractic College in 1987. Following graduation, I joined my father in practice and formed McGinnis Chiropractic Center. Feeling the need to advance my education and clinical skills, I began a diplomate program in Orthopedics with the National University of Health Sciences which I completed in 1991.

I've been active in the chiropractic profession most of my career. I have served as the delegate from South Carolina to The American Chiropractic Association since 1993. I was recently elected The American Chiropractic Association's Board of Governors. The ACA is the largest professional association in the world representing doctors of chiropractic. I am also a member of the South Carolina Chiropractic Association and currently chair the Medicare and Hospital Relations committees. I was honored to be named as a Fellow with the International College of Chiropractors.

Being a Sumter native, I try to give back to the community. I've served on boards with the American Red Cross, Friends of the Library, YMCA, and the Boy Scouts of America. I'm on the Pastoral Advisory Committee at St. Judes Catholic Church. I've coached soccer at PARD and am a member of the Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce. Recently, I became a Spinning instructor and teach at the YMCA.

Sumter Neck and Back Center was founded in 1997. I feel privileged to be a second generation chiropractor who is still caring for many of my father's patients as well as their families. I have been humbled by being named Best Chiropractor in the Sumter Item's Reader Poll six times.

In 2012, Governor Nikki Haley appointed me to the South Carolina Board of Chiropractic Examiners. I am now currently serving on the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) which develops, administers and scores standardized exams that assess knowledge, higher-level cognitive abilities and problem-solving in various basic science and clinical science subjects.

A wise man said, have someone to love, something you love to do, and something to look forward to.

My wife Liz is my best friend and confidant. Of all the things I've done in my life, nothing gives me more joy than being a husband and father. I thank Liz and my son Thomas for making my life full of love and laughs. I have woven my personal and professional life after a man who taught me humility, perseverance, love and chiropractic practices and principles. Dr. EJ McGinnis, my father, is that man.

I can honestly say that I never wake up and do not want to go to work. Everyday I look forward to taking care of patients. I can not see myself doing anything else.

It has been an intense drive and motivation of mine to place chiropractic in the mainstream of healthcare. I firmly believe history will look back and appreciate that chiropractic was maligned by its detractors and abused by its proponents. I look forward to the day chiropractic will be proved to be a significant segment of the healing arts world. Please, enough about me! Thanks for visiting our site.
